If you mistakenly named your computer something stupid when installing Ubuntu, and now want to change it without running the
hostname command, simply run
sudo nano /etc/hosts change
127.0.0.1 name of your computer to the name you want. Next run
sudo nano /etc/hostname and change that to what you want. Once finished, reboot. Check your work. You should be good to go.
Hope this helps.
